temporary 703 fiberglass mounting for renters

First time poster here (long time stalker). After doing a number of searches for a solution to mount my oc 703 figerglass acoustic panels and not finding a method i really liked i've decided to share what has worked for me. Like many, i rent and would rather not have to deal with holes in the walls when i leave. I have covered the 703 with fabric but didn't want to deal with frames. So, after a bit of trial and error this is what i found to work.

A combination of two different types of tape. The first, which is placed on the fabric on the back of your panel is RHINO GRIP, a double-sided tape intended for carpets. The second, single-sided foam tape CAMPER SEAL made by MD. Place the foam tape on top of the rhino tape and there you have it. I picked these up at Home Depot, but i'm sure you can find them lots of places.

I've tested the removal of panels as well. the foam tape leaves no residue or marks on the wall, and the rhino tape can be rubbed of the panel like a booger (it's quite gooy). I can't vouch for 4" 703, but it has worked well for my 2". Also this isn't going to work if you want an air gap between the panel and wall.

Oh and i cut my 703 for aesthetic purposes only, i was trying to copy auralex with their SonoSuede system. Hope this helps someone. Thanks.

Jake

Very interesting. thumbsup
If you don't mind report back next month (if you remember). I would be interested to know if it started to come off the wall.

Very nice looking pattern! And if I see it correctly, it looks like you used full panels and didn't lose any material cutting those shapes!

I may just steal your idea and make some blue panels like those!

Have you tried them for clouds? Would they be fine stuck the ceiling? My drywall is SLIGHTLY textured.

So after a couple months now, I still think this is a good idea. Some of the custom cut panels have come off the wall, so after applying additional tape to what was there (and making sure the wall is clean), they have held nicely. The standard 2'x4' panels i have never come down.

My wall is slightly textured as well, I don't see that as a problem. Though, I don't think it would work as well on the ceiling. I might break down and buy the rotofast if i get around to the ceiling.

I myself would be a little worried about doing that.
