acoustic experts - what do you make of this?

been researching bass traps with the view to building a few - gonna go with 1 layer of 705 frk and 2 layers of 703 - 6 inches total (sound sensible?)

Anyway - I came accross a design on the sound on sound website which is unlike any other builds i've seen and just wondered what the experts made of it?

Not that it won't absorb, but not sure any better then just using solid rockwool or rigid fiberglass. Never tried it so who knows.

I will not call myself an expert but this design seems to be an implementation of a panel absorber with insulation inside to broaden the bandwidth.

The free hanging mats are a kind of resonant panels, however there is no easy way of calculating the resonance frequency. Perhaps trial and error is the only way to find out where this is absorbing it's most.

Agreed. I guess you could test the room with and without and see how well it worked.
