Who makes simple fabric wrapped 703 panels?

Does anyone make just fabric wrapped 703 panels without a frame? I need to create some clouds and straddle some ceiling corners and any framing would be cumbersome and needlessly expensive.

Thanks,

-R

Actually we do have a frame but it is built to the back (plastic frame to front). The frame is there so mounting is easier. Not sure how you would mount straddling corners without it.

Straddling corners could be mounted with corner impalers, available from Primacoustic I think. Or just a couple of well placed finish nails. For my cloud I'll just rest the panels horizontally on my ceiling cross beams.

Anyhow, I answered my own question.

Acoustimac.

Most cost effective is to buy there "EZ wraps" and than some 703 locally (no shipping). Slide 703 into EZ wraps, mounting hardware is included along with 4 straps on the back of the wraps for vertical or horizontal mounting. I have 12 of these in my room and 4 more coming this week. Looks and works great.

How do those things look? Is it a tight fit or loose and baggy? Are they suede?

The price is definitely right!

Thanks,

They fit very snug and look great in my opinion. Basically to get them on you need two 2 by 4 foot pieces of cardboard (I used the cardboard that my cases of 703 where packaged in). Sandwich the 703 in-between two pieces of cardboard and slowly slide into the EZ wrap. Pull cardboard out zip the bag up and you are good to go.

It is a tight fit. I ripped my first bag. Once you get the hang out it though its really easy to get the bags on. It slightly lacks the stiff look of a framed panel but is much lighter, easier and cheaper. They just started including things to put in the corners to give the DIY panels a more framed appearance. I honestly don't mind the somewhat rounded corner look on my panels though.

Good to know, might go for this for some of the treatment I plan to apply later on, especially some wall-to-ceiling straddlers (thus far I plan to have 4 or 5 of those in my small room). Do you have pics of your finished panels? Thanks for the info!

Do these EZ-wraps sag with time? Are the seams well-sewn?

Mine have not sagged at all. The strap is well made.

So I ended up ordering a 6 pack of these. I like the simple neutral color choices and the clean look. More expensive than the bags, but cheaper than the fancy bass traps. I'm going to mount them on the walls on 1" x 1" wood strips to put a little air behind them, and suspend a few over the console.

Primacoustic - Acoustical Solutions

If these work out I'll get a bunch more and treat all the corners (including ceilings) of my largish (450 sq feet) control/playing room.

Thanks so much! I'll e-mail them later and ask about details about the corner protectors.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I was wondering if anyone knows the availability of one of these fabric bags to zip around a sheet (or two) of OC 703. I have the OC already, I just need a fabric bag. and I can't seem to find them anywhere now. They're not listed on the ReadyAcoustics site anymore, and Acoustimac says they're out of stock of their EZ-Wrap product. Just looking for something simple like this to make use of some spare 703 I have lying around.

Thanks!

Burlap Bags - 27 x 40 Hydrocarbon Free Burlap Bag

I always wanted to make some absorbers with some burlap potato or coffee bags (used ones, with stamps and all) because I think it would look cool. However, the coffee ones are just too small. These ones are large though. Considering they are 27" wide you may be able to get a full 6" of OC703 in there! Of course, you would have to cut the tops off though since these bags are only 40", but then you could still throw them in another bag.

Either way, not a bad deal for a measly <$2

- OR -

You could always just buy the fabric and just use some spray adhesive to stick it to the panels. Some think that nice, acoustically transparent fabric will cost you tons of $$.
Others will tell you it doesn't have to (if you like the color "wheat")

One yard of this fabric will wrap the entire front and then some of a panel. One and a half yards will wrap the entire thing (up to at least an 8" absorber) front and back.

Spray adhesive works quite well with fabric, but please note it will add instant flamability to your panels. It is worth everyone's time to buy a can of flame re-tardant spray to make sure your panels don't ignite in seconds should the unthinkable happen.

Happy building
