Thread Starter | DIY Broadband Absorber
Ok, this Christmas break is DIY time for me. I'm going to try to make 3 diffusers and 6 bass traps. You can see my other thread covering the diffusion build - homemade qrd diffuser. This thread is for my bass traps. I'm going to model this build after DIY Ultratouch Cotton Bass Traps / Broadband Absorbers as it looks way easier than my last build - John Sayers' Recording Studio Design Forum • View topic - My bass trap project. Supplies: Ikea: IVAR side unit (12"x89"(or maybe 79")) - 2x6=12 $20x6=$120 (or $15x6=$90) IVAR shelf (33"x12") - 2x6=12 $7.50x6= $45 OBSERVATÖR Cross-brace (39") – 6 $5.00x6=$30 PBISupply: UltraTouch Cotton Batt Insulation – 24 batts @R-21 x 16.25" x 94" (53.04 sf) - $65.77 per roll Using 3 layers per panel (as the build I’m following did) and two batts side by side to fill the 33” width, that is - 6 x 3 x 2 = 24 batts x $65.77 = $1578.48 THIS CAN’T BE RIGHT!!? I’m thinking a roll is different than a batt. I’m looking here: SHOP ONLINE Someone please correct me because I cannot afford this! Going forward, since the width of these panels will be 33”, I assume that two rolls of 16.25” side-by-side should fit snugly inside. I plan to staple fabric to the inside of the frame, and behind this, staple chicken wire. Leaving the back end unstapled, I will stuff the ultratouch inside and staple the last side closed. Angle Brackets – 8 per panel – about $10 per panel Chicken Wire – Home Depot - $? Burlap fabric – Price - $? 1 piece of 202” x 33” burlap vertically wrapped Extra two strips of 89”x12” to cover the sides I’m excited. This looks like a really quick and easy build that will work out well. Please tell me I’m wrong on the price of ultratouch. Thanks. |

It kind of looks like there are five 16.5" X 94" batts per "roll", if a "roll" is 53 sq ft. Good Luck! Seamus
