ROCKBOARD 35 !!!!!!! What I meant was, my thoughts but I obviously want other peoples opinions too. Bascially I am building a room (not for myself, but I wish) and when it came down to filling insulation into the framing, I want the stuff behind the frame to be a less rigid insulation and have some rigid boards in front. The rigid boards would be directly behind the fabric. Now we can all agree ( atleast most) that the safe n sound is probably best bang for buck, but is very loose. This is what I used in behind the rigid boards. Now I went over Impco in Toronto (very VERY helpfull over there) to find something rigid to get the job done. What I saw were 8lbs/cu ft, 4lbs/cu ft, and 3.5 lbs/ cu ft. They didn't have the 60 in stock. I was actually surprised to find the 80 not perform as well as both the 35 and the 40. I ended up choosing the least dense material because when you put the stats side-by-side with the 40 they were almost identical in specs (and not just sound related). They both had an NRC of over 1.00 and on all freq's they were very close. The both boasted a rating of over 1.00 down to 125 hz. I think the best part about it was that the Rockboard 35 was $0.50/sq ft less than the Rockboard 40. So in this case it was a no brainer, I bought the Rockboard 35. Just wanted to shed some light because I almost dismissed it since I never really hear or see anyone talking about it. I went with my gut and thought that maybe someone could tell me why they wouldn't go with this one, or why it isn't talked about very much?? |

I hope you did not pay much. Safe n Sound etc is the best for isolation in wall cavities. Andre

This would be for the actual acoustics in the room ad it's about $0.20 more per sq ft.

Denser materials are not always better. For most applications discussed here at Gearslutz, ~3 lb/ft3 material is around optimum. The exact value is application and design specific. Fortunately, broad band absorbers are very insensitive to density differences, depending on the design. Safe N Sound is 2.5 lb/ft3 density. Andre | |

Awesome!! Thanks for the info. Looks like I could have gone down in density and saved a little money.
