| Ideal cloud/panel positioning for vaulted ceiling Hello, attached are a few pics showing the "pitch" of my ceiling which is at a 35 degree angle approx. I'm looking to install a cloud/panels over my listening position. The studio is 13.5 x 10.5 and has a good deal of strategically placed front/side/corner traps and a combo of diffusion/absorption on the back wall. I primarily use it for writing/tracking and it has a nice sound to the room however, I'd like to get it closer to an ideal mixing situation and would like some suggestions on the following:
- 24x48 panels. Should I go with 2" or 4" thick panels for the cloud? - Is a cloud/ceiling absorption considered an "early reflection" point? - If I go with 24x48x4 cloud panels hanging level and suspended by hooks/chain, What's the ideal amount of area that the cloud should cover above the listening position? - If suspended in a level position how low should they hang? (the height directly above the listening position is 11.5 feet) - Would mounting say 24x48x2 panels against the ceiling starting above the listening position and moving further back to the peak where the back wall meets the ceiling give me the same or better effect than just a cloud? - Perhaps maybe a combo of both? suspended 4" thick cloud AND 2" thick panels "up" the ceiling? My vaulted ceiling presents so many questions and only a few threads here on GS that really targeted my particular situation so I appreciate any advice/feedback. Thanks in advance! |

| I made my cloud 2"...made that decision by reading on here...plus it would have too heavy if i made it 4" It weighs 50 pounds and is 6'x6' Your room is almost exactly the same dimensions as mine.... Yes, a cloud is an early reflection point....and you can find it with a mirror...although i plan on just centering mine in accordance to my bass traps mounted on the ceiling corners...its big enough that it will catch all the early reflections.. some say that the cloud just need to go as far back as the end of the last sidewall 1st reflection panel. But i wanted mine to extend completely over the listening position since my room is really live. i asked the same question about how low it should hang, and ethan told me 2"-6" The higher up the better though..this holds true for room size as well.....the longer distance the sound has to travel before it strikes an object the better. I cant tell from the pics, but it looks like the ceiling is just slanted not vaulted? if its vaulted, then i would assume the two highest points meet in the center of the room and extend the length of the room?...if thats the case then just center the cloud in between the corner point of the vault....but really the pics give impression we are talking about a slant here... anyways, i would just have the cloud covering you and the speakers heres mine ( LED lighting optional )![]() |

| Thanks guys! Takman you are correct, it's more slanted and I'm getting the idea that placing 2" or 4" hanging clouds perhaps 3- 24x48's will be the answer above the listening area. What are the dimensions of your cloud? (nice design by the way) |

| the cloud is 6' x 6' and is 2" thick... i kind of wish i had made it a tad smaller, like 4'x6' or ..its just a tight fit.. yea, 3 2'x'4's side by side for a 4'x6' is probably good...that way you extend over each speaker, and you still extend enough over the listening position without going to deep into the room.. |

| Thanks for that! I went to your other post "My Bass Trap Build" Sweet panel frames and beautiful view. Are you doing a studio build-out or just adding on to an existing studio? |
