Rigid Insulation - Measured vs. Cut Dimensions

I got some cubicle partitions that had an OC705 equivalent in them (I calculated the density), but they measured at 1.5 inches. After looking at lumber, and thinking about the measured vs. cut dimensions, I began to wonder if it is the same for the insulation.

For example, a 2 x 4 board is cut down to a 1.5 x 3.5 board. It is impossible to find a board that is cut down to 2", which led me to think that a 2" slab of rigid insulation actually measures 1.5".

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not?

1" 703 IS 1" thick... 2" IS 2" thick, 4" IS 4" thick... same thing for the length and width... 24" x 48" and 48" x 96" are those dimensions. They are NOT undersized like lumber.

Thanks for this information. As I was at Lowes and Home Depot, I could not find ANY lumber cut to 2", only those undercut from 2". I thought I was going to have to plane some boards down. But I found some precut boards to precise measurements at Home Depot. Only thing is it's going to double the cost. Instead of $1 per board, it's going to be about $2 per board. It's basically inconsequential, but the frugality in me was still upset.

Thanks.

So, why not contact a REAL lumber yard and get 4/4... problem solved.

Are you a woodworker of any sort??? Like with a planer or joiner... or access to anyone who does?

I have access to a planer, as I said in the post above. But to get to it, I'd have to drive 45 minutes, pay gas, and use more of my time, all of which I consider to be more valuable than the extra dollar to just buy it precut. But yeah, if the driving wasn't a factor, I'd do it for sure.
