Acoustically Transparent Plastic?

Is there a plastic that is thin enough to be acoustically transparent?

I want to the 703 for my absorbers wrapped in plastic so they can't off-gas whatever it is they normally would.

Is there such a thing?

off gas?

703 and similar material is safe....no plastic that i know of will work...if sound can get in, then the supposed "off gas" can get out...so kinda pointless anways...

just wrap them in fabric and dont worry about it...

edit:

heres a thought...if you are worried about "off gas"..then let the insulation sit out in a well ventilated area for a week or 2 prior to wrapping/installing them

You can use thin plastic when using for bass traps, but when used for things like early reflection points you DO NOT. It will reflect the frequencies you want to absorb.

Anyone ever notice the sort of rotten fish smell from fresh 703?

hmmm... I spent an afternoon seeing if there was a departed critter :-( or something in my studio while we were building. To check, we moved all of the 703 insulation out of a room it was stored in. Nothing. Then realized the smell was in the other room... where we moved the insulation to! But if I smelled the insulation directly it didn't stand out, like you had to be a few feet away. I then thought there was something from the factory in between one of the bats, but we never found anything.

Yep it is something you do have to deal with. We don't use 705 (same as 703 but denser) in our product, but manufacture a different product for someone else and have to let it sit for a while.
