breathable fabric

hi,
i often read that the most done "test" to see if fabric can be used for accoustic things, is to breath through it..
now i actually have to find a fabric for my broad band absorber diy project.
i would like to buy some fabrik from ikea, cause they are looking allright and the price is good. and i donīt want to use burlap for instance.
but when i try to breath through the ikea fabric its not as easy as breathing through bourlap. its possible, but i think after some minutes it would be hard..
so, any one of you allready used some ikea fabric?
and is it also ok if the fabric is not as breathable as burlap?

thanks a lot

talk test

I have worked with some fabric that were quit unbreathable. Not recommended but customer insisted?? Room ended up sound great? Try talking directly into fabric and listen for reflection of your voice. If it does reflect its probably a stronger case to go with a acoustical(much more expensive ) fabric?

haha, thanks, i did not know that.

so, to be exact, blowing through it.. does your breath have to go through the fabric easily or can it be like with a cotton pullover?

thanks! that sounds good. just one question, why do you ask
"Room ended up sound great?" does that mean you donīt think that it sounded great in the end?

I always wondered about that, exactly what do people mean by breathable.

Should you be blowing gently or hard. When you blow (oor errr missus) should the fabric be absolute stationary with no resistance whatsoever, or is it ok if it does move a bit. If so how much movement is acceptable?.

I think for bass only traps it doesn't really matter soo much cause even a dense fabric will still have the lowest frequencies passing through. Broadband on the other hand...

Eat some onions and have someone stand in front of you. If they can smell the onions when you blow through it then it is fine. Report back to us on how this worked out.
