installing qrd diffusers - flat or spaced from wall?

I recently acquired some nice qrd diffuser panels that came from A&M studios made out of thin birch plywood. They are 8" deep 4' high and will span about 12' along my back wall of my tracking room. Im going to install them 4' from the ground on the wall. (Below these qrds i will have absorption panel that are on on wheels but will most likely stay put).

My question is.....do i install them right against the wall? or should i fill the cavities on the backside of the qrds with 703 insulation and install them an inch or two away from the wall for a more broadband absorption?

The tracking room is 14' (back wall) x16' x 9'high. I have a dropped ceiling w/absorption and the front wall and one side wall w/absorption as well.

It would be easier to install them strait against the wall but if i can benefit with some space..hell yea.... i dont want to do this twice.

thank you

Don't know, but I like the spacing idea if it doesn't eat significant room. FWIW, theres' absorption behind most of my diffusers.

Nice, really nice. Flat up against the wall usually. Diffusors like that will work down to 800 Hz...

But, if you need the bass trapping, it definitely will not hurt to space them out.

Please let us know what you think of the sound once they're installed.

Just to clarify, spacing a QRD off the wall with not make it work any lower.
