Skyline Diffusers or Boradband traps in the back of a 11x10x8 mixing room ?

Hello there!

I am working in the acoustics of my 11x10x8 Ft mixing/mastering room. I already have the analysis for the HUGE amount of Bass/broadband Traps i need in the corners, ceilings and sides .

I have been reading a bit about the effect diffusers have on sound and I was wondering if it makes sense to add Back wall Skyline diffusers or any other diffusers for a Mixing/Mastering room to make it less dead and clear on the mid/high ranges ?

If so, what Area size should I cover? I have been reading here people uses 2' x 2' Skylines in triads, by the way (this is a 10 w x 8 H) wall.

Also, what would work best on the ceiling right above the mixing position? i have seen several different setups, Broadband traps or Diffusers or a combination of both?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Lightbulb

If you'd like to use diffusion, I'd cover the entire center portion of the rear wall. Leave the four borders free for bass trapping in those four corners.

Not disagreeing with Ethan but you could also use it on the back side walls and ceiling area. In a room that small there are strong nulls and peaks coming from the back wall so thick absorption is generally my pick. But it would not be wrong to go with what Ethan recommended.

WOW, its gotta be my lucky day!! First Ethan helps me on another topic and now I get also his help on this one. In addition to that, I get Glenn's advise as well!!! THANK YOU very much for your free and priceless advise.

So, from Ethan's advise, I understand I can use diffuser on the back wall in the center leaving space for Bass trapping. Excellent!
From Glenn's advise I can also add diffusion to the celing righ behind me and the lateral walls, correct? In other words, I can get the best of the two and add the diffuser in the back wall with all require trapping around it. Then add the diffusers in the ceiling and side walls if I have enough space.

One "tiny" detail I forgot to mention is that my left wall has a big window with heavy wood blinds in the center. I'm am thinking about using heavy curtains and bass traps behind the courtains. No sunlight but "who cares"? Or perhaps should i use the window as my front wall instead? it has enough space to add traps on bot sides and above the window.....but it would be 10' depth, instead of the 11' depth I have in my initial setup.

Thank you!!!

As long as you can treat it if in the early reflection point then it is fine.

One note I do what to make. I understand you want to use diffusion, but in that room I would focus the low end first. Get that under control then add diffusion as icing on the cake. Your room is getting close to squ which will have some pretty bad low end problems.

Perfect!! I understand. Will focus on solving the Low end problem first and then see if I really need the diffusers.

Thanks Glenn!!

Saludos!!
