Thread Starter | Space between panels or thicker panels?
Which is more efficient to do, 2" thick panel mounted 2" away from the wall or 4" thick panel mounted flush on the wall? I've read that spacing a panel away from the wall makes it a better absorber than one that is just thicker, such as 1" panel spaced 1" away absorbs better than a 2" panel mounted flush. Is this true? I believe the airspace let's you save on material but not on overall thickness. You can increase the performance of a given panel by spacing it out from the wall but I don't think that'll outperform the same overall thickness completely filled with absorbent.
