Thread Starter | Would bass traps make a difference in this room? (diagram inside)
So I'm thinking of purchasing some bass traps and acoustic panels, but before taking the plunge (money wise), I was wondering if you guys could give me your input, since this would probably run me 350 dollars for 6 pannels. The following is a diagram of the room I'm working in. It's very small: 11ft long, 8ft wide and 9ft tall. Towards the top left I have a small iso booth and to the right of that is where I have my desk set up. Behind me, a couple feet back is my bed (yes, bedroom set up). The room has 3 doors, the one behind the bed is never used/opened. The door next to that one is the closet door, and the one on the left side is the door I use to enter/leave the room. There is a window behind my desk and another to my right. Would purchasing bass traps + acoustic pannels in any way help my situation? If so, around how many and where should they be placed? or am I in too little of a box to even desire to tame the sound of my Event SP6's? Thanks for looking! |

Bass traps are a must. Especially since you are in a "box" shaped room. I would put bass traps in any corner you can really. Start with the ones near your monitors. Panels to the sides of your listening position (if you can see the speakers in a mirror on the side...put one here). Make an angled cloud over your head on the mix position. If you can, Diffuse behind your head. Check out Ethan's site (im sure he'll chime in). I checked out his products at AES this year and the bass traps were MASSIVE! Very cool. Best part, you can just place them. No attaching necessary. I'd also look into his diffuser/bass traps. Might pick some up if I change the layout of my current setup. EDIT: In addition, just make sure your desk is symmetrical with your monitors and in that space between the walls and booth. You'll probably have to cover up at least the side window. PS. Where in NY are you? |

I'm in queens ![]() I'm planing to purchase 2'x4'x4" pannels. I'm starting to think that a 350 budget might not cover the ammount i'm going to need. You suggested putting some behind the monitors (2) and to my right and left (2), in addition to a cloud above my listening position (1). Would I also need two extra ones (one on each top corner of the wall behind me?). Any other reflections points need to be covered? |

If you can I would move the bed where the desk is and move the desk to the bottom (where the bed is now). Start by having your setting spot around 38% of the room length, which you will find moving forward or back from there is help the response. At that point cover as many corners as possible and back wall with bass traps. Then put panels in the early reflection points (What Are Early Reflection Points. SPOTLIGHT:Bob Ebeling - Revolution Studio). See the following to give you a guide to acoustic set up. GIK Acoustics: Room Setup
