Thread Starter | Large room, wooden floors
I have a large square recording room (about 50 square meters) with a hard wooden floor. It sounds big, but I`m not sure if it will sound to messy in live recordings etc. I need some good tips how to treat the acoustic in this room in a very cheap way. I have put some large rugs on the walls and in one of the corner. Also in all of the windows. Any tips? |

What are the dimensions of the room? The height also? Also, where are any doors and windows. Also furniture that can't go away? Is it drywall or brickwall? 50sqm is rather ok and if it isn't square (7m x 7m) and has a long side (e.g. ~6x9) then it should be very promising. What type of instruments are you recording in there? The rags on the walls are simply absorbing the high frequencies and don't control room modes. A simple trick when using absorbers is to not place them symetrically (i.e. facing each other). If they are located shifted to each other on opposite walls it makes a better effect. |

It would help to know the size and what you are recording in the room.

Here`s a rough sketch of my room. I`m recording mostly guitars, drums and vocals in there. its about 5 meters under the ceiling, and its wooden walls. I placed a large matrass where the large door is that fitted right in. The windows is "sealed" with thin wavy matrasses. |

Especially with drums, you'll want something on the ceiling over the drums (hard floor, soft ceiling) that's relatively broadband. You'll also potentially want some movable to pull around vocalists and guitarists to dry things up when you want something more close mic'd and adjustable in the box. Having these also double as broadband absorbers when shoved into corners would be a big benefit too. Bryan

Hi guys, sorry to hijack but my room is almost identical in size with ceilings 3.8M high. Currently have carpet and am planing on wooden floors. Only difference with me its a "tracking & mix" room. Other than making ceiling soft (hanging clouds) and walls have diffusion already, is there anything else? Would you keep the floors carpeted? |
