Stone wool in greece to make bass traps

I ran a search on this ...but didnt come up with anything....

I live in small town in greece, so when it comes to finding stuff..i usually take what i can get

so i'm looking to get semi-rigid insulation to make bass traps . I wanted to get ownens corning 703 of course.

Well, went to the local insulation company today...and this is the only thing i can get....

Fibran - Insulation Materials and this stuff is made in greece

So form my research, i think its the equivalent of rock wool, just called stone wool?

Stone Wool ( stone wool canadian site)

Now, i tried to find its absortion properties about stone wool on this site

http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm

it only lists rockwool...but about a 1/4 of the way down the page it says roxul may be a subsiduary of rockwool ( maybe just called stone wool in other countries?)

So anyways, if my father translated correctly from the owner, the stone wool i can get here http://www.fibran.gr/en/business_geo.php , is around 4 euro for a 2' x 4' piece with a density of 50kg/m3 and 6 euro for 100kg/m3 piece

So really im trying to figure out if this stuff is the same as rockwool, and if it isnt, should i use it or not....

ill try to find out is any lab testing has been done by geolan/fibran brand . So far i havent found anything.

but yea, it is probably the right stuff. its not like i have much of a choice anyways....

do you think i should go with either: ( both same size, 2" thick, 2' x 4')

50 kg/m3 at 3 eruo a piece
or
100kg/m3 at 5 euro a piece

by looking at the chart of rockwool, which is probably going to be close enough to the stuff im looking at...

RHT 40 2"(51mm)3.5 pcf (56 kg/m3)

NRC
0.26 /0.68/1.14 /1.13 /1.06 /1.07 /1.00

RXL 60 2" (51mm)6.0 pcf (96 kg/m3)

NRC
0.32/ 0.81 /1.06/ 1.02/ 0.99 /1.04/ 0.95

For bass trapping go for 4" and for the early reflection panels go for 2". 50kg will work fine.

The Fibran product you found looks good. 70-75kg/m3 seems to be the closest in density to 703. IT should work well.

The hardest thing is to find 10cm (4") thick material. Rigid rockwool (mineralwool/stonewool - same thing) seems to be popular in up to 2" thickness for use drywall insulation mainly. 10cm is quite hard to find and more expensive.

But you can use two 5cm thick plates together to form 10cm thickness - although it adds the additional issue of securing them together.

Knauf is also marketing equivalent products that are widely used in Greece.

You are more than welcome, just give a call to my brother Jordan, (check the contact details in our website) and he will be happy to show you around the studio

Actually you don't need to secure them together. Just stack them in a frame.
