| Lives for gear | Question about wall & ceiling panels
So I'm getting all geared up to treat my control room. Doing 4 corner traps 6" deep and 1 rear wall bass trap 6" deep as well. The corner traps will be FSK faced. My question is with any of the wall & ceiling panels. How thick should they be and do they need any distance from their attached surface? Thanks, Keith Moore |

1) If I'm framing my panels I'm guessing I'd use a 4" frame for a 2" foam panel. But would this frame butt right against the wall? Same question with ceiling panels. 2) For a back wall bass trap being 6" deep would this air gap rule also apply or can it rest directly against the wall. If not then again I ask 12" frame butt up against the wall? Thanks soooooo much for your time. Keith Moore

1) If the gap is built into the frame then you do not need to space it. 2) For the back wall you don't need to go a full 12" but put a few inch gap if possible |

So I'm figuring an 8" frame will do. 6" foam with 2" gap. Also is the bass trap still useful if the back wall is at an angle? Somewhere close to 45 degrees I think. Was also thinking about putting diffusors on the wall to the left and right of the trap if that's a good idea for an angled rear wall.

Not sure what you mean by the angle but if 6" thick then your fine. BTW rigid fiberglass or mineral wool is what most people use. If you use foam you have to use acoustic foam and that stuff from ebay is NOT acoustic foam. |

Hope that makes more sense. If I had a simple program to do a drawing I would.

| Lives for gear | Thanks so much for all your help Glenn. Both Ethan and yourself offer a ton of great advice to all of us. Up until now I have been using Auralex foam panels with IK Multimedia's ARC software (Which does a great job btw) But I'm really looking foward to making this improvements. Just wanted to get all the education I can get so I end up doing it once.
