Question So what is the most cost effective way to deaden a ceiling?

Hey guys, I'm working on treating the "jam room", and it has a VERY low ceiling (with a tile floor), so I'm going to just deaden the ceiling completely to make it more transparent.

I would like to do this on the CHEAP, and Menards is only 3 miles away, so here's what I was thinking:

Build 8' square frames out of furring strips.
cover the bottom with black "weed control" fabric
fill them with unfaced R19
attach to ceiling (likely with short chains so I could have a small/adjustable air gap)

Would this be reasonably effective?

Anything that would work better on the same kind of (or cheaper) budget?

FYI: the nearest source for rigid fiberglass or mineral wool that I've found is 60+ miles away (and I'm not even sure they'd sell to the public), so fuel expense would also play into the equation.

Thanks!
Steve

I think that will work fine. You can compress it to 2 or so inches to save space.thumbsup
