new qrd calculator available, called qrdude

Well, I just noticed the announcement on Home Theatre Shack, QRDUDE is now publicly available.

Which is great news!

I, along with a few others (lupo and xenon) have had the pleasure of using a pre-release version for a little while, and now is freely available to all.

I took the very big presumption of posting this, simply because I know collo is a modest guy, and has some sort of 'understanding' with the shack which *may* prevent him from announcing it himself. I hope he is not offended??

In any case, word will get around of course, so be at it and use the best qrd calc on the net.

And, I only just saw (so have not had time to read it yet)..... the explanation page is FULL man!! I guess doing it so comprehensively avoids future questions!

congratulations collo, I hope you are suitably proud of yourself, as you should be.

And thank you for the tool, and all the work that went into it.

I think it would be worth pointing out that QRDude now handles 2D diffusors.
I just found out deep down in a couple of interesting threads.
QRDude: Quadratic Residue Diffuser calculator
A great piece of software. My hat is off to collo and his merry helpers

I gotta unpack my shop and cut myself a few hundred little pieces of wood...

Version 2.03 released to fix a bug - the text report for 2D diffusers incorrectly stated the physical well depth for normal (non-inverse) panels.

Hopefully didn't spoil the plans of too many budding QRD builders...
Thanks to TerryJ for spotting that one!

Anyone interested in this sort of thing...?

QRDude version 3.00 is now available - download link

Main changes:

- New 'Lobes' screen to show diffusion lobes for multiple panels
- New 'Usable ranges explorer' screen to see effect of signal angle on HF cutoff frequency
- Now distinguishes the difference between diffusion and scattering ranges at bottom of usable range
- Seating distance now based on lowest diffusion frequency rather than LF cutoff - changes with signal angle for multiple panels can be seen on the lobes screen. This gives a lower recommended seating distance compared to earlier versions.

There is a new lobes page added to the user guide. You will need to read this to have any chance of understanding what's going on with the lobes.

The other guide pages and overview page have been updated with lobe and signal angle information - well worth a re-read.

Thanks go to those who helped with suggestions, and particular thanks to PaulP who did much of the beta-testing and proof reading.

I've been trying to download QRDude, couple of times already but some how it's taking too long for the download(3-5 days) there must be something wrong with the site. anybody know how long it usually takes?

Looks like there is an intermittent problem downloading the file - I've forwarded a complaint to the hosting company.

Could the next few people who try downloading, post whether it was successful or not...

regards

Top work, as usual! =)

PS: if download doesn't work, perhaps check virus/firewall settings? Some progs may refuse to download and run an executable file.

Error

When I run the executable I get the following message:
Code:
Wrong version of run-time DLL
I went through my VB runtime files and everything seems in order. I downloaded the vbrun60.exe installer from microsoft and tried reinstalling and re-registering the server with regsvr32 but still no love.

Embarrassing when you consider that I'm a computer technician...

Any ideas?

Thanks for the feedback guys...

The hosting company is looking into the situation but found nothing so far, and have asked for some more information.

It would help greatly if anyone who is unable to download QRDude could go to What Is My IP Address to determine your current IP address, and shoot me a PM with its value.

I'll pass this on to the hosting techs, so they can find the transactions that went on between their server and your PC.

---------------------------------------
Have those who downloaded OK, been able to run the program without getting an error?

@Piyono: I had an instance where the download appeared to complete, but the whole file did not actually come down. When I ran it, I got an error, which might be the same situation you are facing.

Could you perhaps check the filesize for me? It should be 425,984 bytes

I haven't had to download the VB6 runtimes from Microsoft since I went to XP years ago - it's hard to see how they would have changed anything there though.

After trying seven or eight times to download it at home without success I went to the studio and got it there, tested it (it worked) came home, overwrote the file I had here and it continued working. Nothing wrong with my computer skills (or VB runtime), after all!

*whew*

For those interested, the MD5 hash for the working executable file is b6bdd68e142d1fef6f53d29dfb2fd532.

Bill, just wanted to look at what volume of material would be needed for a 2d (managed to find 50kg/m3 polystyrene, dunno if we need to go that dense?) and was looking for the feature you had that gave a lineal length from which we can calculate volume etc.

but, silly me, can no longer find it. where abouts is it??

You can find the volume at the end of the 2D report.

2D screen > Export > Generate 2D report

As an aside...It looks like all the download probelms are behind us - they said it was a faulty cable (work that one out), so I'll make qrdude available as an exe once more, with the zip as a backup in case of any more hosting mischief.

thanks bill. I see you have added to that also (??) by including an estimated weight as well as length. Of course you're gonna tell me it was always there haha!

EDIT. whoda thunk it. audiophiles have always said cables make a difference in audio, and I never believed them! wrong cables and voila! no qrdude.
