OC 703 or equivalent in LA / SoCal area?

I've been able to find OC 703 and equivalents on the internet but the shipping charges are pretty hefty. Does anyone know anyone in LA or the Southern California area that sells that stuff so I could pick it up locally? Even something in the southwest or western US would probably be cheaper than shipping from the east coast.

I called Owen's Corning and they told me that my local Home Depot should sell it, but when I went in they didn't have any and said it wasn't available through special order either

OC 703 Supplier Los Angeles

I was in the same position last year. Even HVAC contractors said to use foam or go to Home Depot, which, as you found out, doesn't carry it!

Finally located fiberglass board it at a place called CWCI Insulation of LA, Inc. in the City of Industry (626) 369-4424. They carry 703, etc., but call first to confirm. They were VERY helpful. I bought an equivalent to 703 which had the same, if not better, characteristics and was a bit cheaper. Good luck!

Viking Insulation in Burbank, (818) 843-7212, handles the Johns Manville equivalent Insul-Shield.

Just tell them what you are looking for and they'll take care of you.

Thanks for the input guys! Called both CWCI and Viking this morning. Neither had OC 703 in stock though.
Both said they would or might get it at some point, but were kind of vague about when or if that would actually happen.

Their recommendations for substitutes were:

CWCI -
Certainteed Certapro
CertaPro™ Commercial Board - - HVAC-Mechanical - Insulation - CertainTeed
$82 for a 6-pack of 2'x4'x2"

Viking -
Johns Manville Insul-SHIELD
Insulation Boards - Insulation Products
$90 for 9-pack of 2'x4'x2"

Anyone have any experience with these?

The Insul-SHIELD has the best price but Viking said they are out of it for the next two weeks. The Certapro is actually more expensive than OC 703 but at least it's local and I wouldn't have to pay shipping on it.

Yes, that's why I sent you to Viking. The Insul-Shield's coefficients performance is practically identical to 703; actually better in some frequencies. I have it all over my studio, and the results are fantastic.

Now you can spend the next two weeks building your frames.

Whatever floats you boat

I agree with VoiceManMike. Whatever you can get easily is what you should use. My opinion, for what it is worth, is: Make it pretty, hang it up, and get on with writing/producing/recording.

I still get caught up in thinking that 703, 705, 4" 2" 1" tube FET small/large diaphram pre-amp etc. are going to make any (!@*# difference in the quality of the song. I have to keep telling myself that a hit song is a hit song is a hit song! I don't care if you sing it through a 40 year old Radio Shack mic into a 3 3/4 ips reel to reel!

Move on. Write Hits. Make Money. Be Happy. Rinse and Repeat! Great mantra for this economy...

I have met so many great musicians that can't tell you what kind guitar strings they use or what mic they last sang through in the studio. Good luck with your frames and your music.

out!

A lot of truth in that.

Thanks for all the input guys. FWIW I found another supplier, Insulation Wholesalers in Pomona. They carry 1" CertainTeed at a very good price.
