Thread Starter | How's my layout looking?
About to start buying all the necessary materials to finish this job and just wanted to get some feedback before I do. room is roughly 9.2' x 11.3' what I have planned so far: - Superchunks floor to ceiling in three wall/wall corners - 2'x4' 4" traps on doors in 4th corner - 2'x4' 6" traps on back wall - 2'x4' 4" traps on front wall - 2'x4' 2" traps at side and ceiling reflection points - either Superchunks or 2'x4' 4" panels across all wall/ceiling corners (not in diagram) Was planning on using 2" OC703 on everything.. is this advisable? Also is it generally recommended that a trap be spaced away from the wall the same as it's thickness? IE: a 6" trap 6" away from the wall, 4" trap 4" away, 2" trap 2" away. any input would be appreciated, thanks! |

I just realized this should have probably been in the Studio Building / Acoustics forum, even though it is bass traps. Mods feel free to move it if necessary.

I'd extend those side panels a bit more, so you are not sitting between two reflecting walls. Some secondary reflection is going to find its way there and jump around.

Well the panels are 2' wide, so I can't really extend them. Would it be better to just place them further back, parallel to my ears? or to maybe move them forward and then put up another set parallel to my ears?

Don't move them. Well, in the physical setup, make sure they're really covering the first reflection spots of both speakers (use a mirror). But if you find your high end a bit fuzzy or metalic, put some more panels where I suggested. Or put some more there anyway. |

You should move the giant window, it's in the way. Anyhow - if it were me, I'd use more absorption overall. But more importantly what you should do is test it using an analyzer microphone and some software, this will tell you what you need more than anything. |
