Materials for Corner bass traps

I'm doing corner bass traps in my control room and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the difference between using stacks of OC 703 or just plain old R19/R30 for the corners. I was planning on facing the traps with OC 703 but using R19 which I already have a bunch of for behind the facing. Thanks!

Either is going to work well. If you have the fluffy stuff then use it. Just make sure it is thick.

Thanks Glenn,
I was thinking of doing 2 foot deep corners but that doesn't seem to be enough depth to me. And by thick do you mean deep? and should the R19 be compressed for greater density? Questions questions.
BTW I have a bunch of your monster traps and they are great!

Compressing it will help if you have enough. By thick I mean make sure you cover a area in the corner of 17"x17"x24".

I would put those puppies in the corners.

Hi talco & Glenn.
I have some similar questions so let me set this straight too, thank you very much.
1.) I’m going to put a 2x4” (20cm) thick equivalent of 703, straddled vertically across the corners so the bass traps will be about 1.80m wide. Will this construction benefit from filling the “big” space behind with fluffy lightweight Rockwool I have plenty off or, it would be much better to make it 3x4” (30cm)?
2.) I have about 60cm space between ceiling & absorbent cloud under my CR ceiling. What kind of bass absorption can I expect from filling the gap all around the room, with 60cm wide (I cold double that), fluffy Rockwool?
3.) Will 4” thick traps placed 4” from the wall in reflection-free zones, benefit from filling the gap behind them with fluffy Rockwool?
Please answer thank you very much.

Hard to say without testing it but either will work well.

Once again it is hard to say without testing but if you have a height mode then it will help with that.

yes but you might find more benefit filling more corners with the fluffy stuff.

Thanx Glenn.
"Hard to say without testing it but either will work well."
...So I will go with 20cm + fluffy stuff all the way & see. In front it´s the space behind flush mounted mains.

"Once again it is hard to say without testing but if you have a height mode then it will help with that."
...The high is ab. 3.30m. The room is 7.30x5.50m.

"yes but you might find more benefit filling more corners with the fluffy stuff."
...All corners are that same.. ...plenty of fluffy stuff, not so much rigid..

Did my corners yesterday and they look great! Havent' had a chance to check out how they sound yet! Did corners that were 24" by 24" by 36" 11 feet tall floor to ceiling. compressed R19 fiberglass with a 2" OC 703 facing. Hope it works.

Your english is great Kurt! better than my Swedish that's for sure!

Good luck with your project.

Great to hear, please report how it sounds?
I´m trying to get it done in between various project & other excuses..
I´m afraid to make insufficient basstrapping behind mains.
Next week...
