Thread Starter | Bedroom Treatment Question
hi guys, i wanna treat my room so it'll be somewhat "decent" for recording / mixing. i read many threads, and they all pretty much say start w/ putting a lot of bass traps, then work on some other stuff. i think that's a good advice. but here's my problem. i have a closet w/ mirrored doors on my 6 o'clock (behind me) and a window on my 3 o'clock (right hand side). now my question is, will putting moving blankets / audimute absorption sheets over my closet doors / window help? or is it waste of money if i have, say, 5 bass traps (2'x4'x4") and 3 acoustic panels (2'x4'x2")? btw, my room dimension is 9.75' x 10.5' p.s. - if moving blanket stuff helps, do i really need to spend $40 a piece audimute sheets? |

Moving blankets are not effective acoustic treatment. You need bass traps for corners, and mid/high frequency absorbers at the side-wall and ceiling reflection points. If you have a window on one side, put the panel there on a stand, or hang it from the ceiling on long wires etc. --Ethan

hey ethan, thanks for the quick reply. i am planning to get bass traps, too. but my question is: "Does putting blankets help at all?" because if they don't, i would rather spend that money toward buying another bass trap. |

Yes, put that money into more bass traps. The only time I'd recommend something like blankets is when the room is huge and the budget is tiny. Like you need to record a band in a hotel banquet room. In that case, if you can reduce even some of the echo at mid and high frequencies, it's better than nothing. --Ethan |

| Ethan gave you the right answer, but just to add, if the blankets are thick enough (2" or so) then you could use them for early reflection or just over all decay times. I honestly don't recommend it but if money is tight..................
