Bass trapping in closet

Hey guys,

I've recently stacked 3 large superchunks in my room and the low-end improvement has been phenomenal.

Since my 4th corner is reserved for a doorway entry, I was thinking the closet built into the wall there might be a decent substitute as it naturally has 2 of its own corners.

Would it be worth superchunking these, or will the improvement to low-end in my room be marginal at best? Forgive the ignorance, but I just don't know how low-end transmission works in regards to smaller spaces within rooms. There are sliding doors on this closet and they are usually kept closed.

Thank you!

sorry, I don't have the answer to your question, I'm just jumping on this thread because I have a similar situation in a room at home which I'm converting into a project studio, although in my case the door and the closet are in two different corners. But I'd also be interested to learn whether traps inside the closet would be effective.

I wondered if it might be worth attempting to use the door itself (both the room and closet doors) as a bass trap by adding mass to it, or would this only be effective at the specific frequency which it resonates at?

I've also tried comparing the sound with the door simply left open, and I think the low end benefits from effectively removing a corner from the room, but I haven't drawn any firm conclusions yet, as I'm still in the process of constructing and installing acoustic treatment in other, more straightforward areas of the room. When I've completed this I'll try some more scientific testing.

Meanwhile, I too would be interested to hear any comments from the wise on the door/closet in corner issue.

All corners pick up bass but "short" corners don't as much. Will it help to fill it? YES, but would try to do other corners like upper ceiling to wall corners or floor to wall corners instead.

Thank you very much Glenn.

The corners in the closet are in fact taller than the ceiling in the room (figure that). So it's not so much size I'm worried about but rather whether trapping it in the closet will affect what I hear in the room itself.

If I could, I would gladly trap the 4th corner in the room, but would need to consider investing in a teleporter to get in and out of the premises.

mmmmmm the new GIK Teleporter. Better yet you could use a stand and move it when mixing. Not sure how much people would be coming in and out though.

Well trapping the closet would help so it is not a bad thing.
