Euro Pallets as diffusers?

Hey All

I am going to make a studio in my friends basement. I am going to make basstraps for the corners, and build some mavable walls from:
http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/59528_PE165419_S4.jpg and http://www.whorange.net/images/ikea_...t_bookcase.jpg.
they will be filled with rockwool and some kind of frabric.

The first idea was to set some more traps up. But i dont want a dead room. that i can make with the moveable walls, if i want. So would it be an OK solution to set up eurp-pallets as diffusers? Just like this one:
http://www.hjhansen.dk/FileExplorer/...x?mw=300&id=97 i was thinking of painting them or something. But, would they du anything (good)? Or whould i go with more traps instead? Or both?

Thanks
And sorry if my english made you trouple :-)

Kind regards
Esben Brandt

Well, I don't think that these (http://lb.redirectingat.com/?id=690X...D300%26id%3D97) will do anything good .

There will probable be some diffusion at high frequencies but you cannot compare that with a QRD or similar diffuser.

You can however place absorbent material inside the euro pallets and work as a Heltmholtz resonator (similar to a perforated panel)

So it would be an OK solution with the pallets and put some arbsorbent material inside? Would it do the trick? along with bass-absorbers in the corners...

IMHO, a perforated panel or a Helmholtz resonator need to have a sealed enclosure, which the pallets don't offer.
Stuffing the pallets with porous absorbers would simply create porous absorbers with a decreased efficiency due to half the face (or more) being covered with wood.

I think the pallets are too rugged and heavy to be of any use, even as raw material to build the bass trap frames or a diffuser.

One note about the IKEA Expedit bookshelves. You mention you are going to make movable walls out of them. If you plan to mount them on wheels and stroll them around, make sure you mount a square piece of plywood to at least 2-3 cells to ensure some level of stiffness.

He can always close them if needed.

IMHO they dont require to be closed to act as a mid frequency absorber if placed against the wall... maybe the opening area is too high, which is different matter.

A Helmholtz resonator has to be sealed to be working as a Helmholtz resonator... Otherwise, you are right, it will make a mid frequency absorber... Hope this helps.
