Thread Starter | Quick question (or two) re fixing foam panels
Want to tweak the acosutics in my vocal booth and hopefully tame the dreaded 300 Hz hump a little more. Presently the interior of the booth is mostly 2 inch thick slab rockwool covered in fabric. I've some homemade bass traps in one of the corners. Just snagged some 2 inch Auralex pyramid foam panels and a couple of LENRD bass traps off ebay. So the question is this: I'm hoping that adding a layer of the Auralex foam to my two inch rockwool panels will act like 4 inches of foam or rockwool? Is that a fair assumption? Regarding the mounting: do foam panels benefit from being rigdily mounted or glued down? Are they just as effective when held lightly in place with long panel pins? Reason being, I don't really want to glue the foam on top of my fabric covered rockwool. And the same question re the LENRD bass traps. I realise they are not going to tame super low bass, but if I get a bit more absorbtion at 250 Hz and up that would be great. Do they really need to be glued, or can I just pin them in? Or stack them? Many thanks |

Ethan Another quickie for you: In a small voiceover booth, consensus has always been that the wall treatment behind the talent has the most sigificant impact on the acoustics and the sound that's picked up by the mic. True? But because of space considerations, I might be forced to use my extra foam panels in front of the talent, in other words, behind the mic capsule. So, in thickness, I'd have 3 and a half inches of treatment in front of the talent, but only two inches behind him. In broad terms, is it possible to say how much less effective that might be? Is it really critical to use your best ammo behind the talent? Of course I could use more on the ceiling..... Hope that question makes sense. Thanks so much |

Absorption behind the microphone does the most good. The only absorption you really need behind a singer in a small booth is bass traps. --Ethan |
