Auralex studio kit placement help!

Hello everyone,

I produce dance music with krk rokit powered 8 g2's. In a small room 10' 6" x 13' 4" and 8 feet high floor to ceiling. My desk is positioned on one of the long walls. I have a bare concrete floor, bare painted walls, and a bare ceiling. I could use a few tips on where to position these 6 bass traps and the 24 1'x1' pieces.

Thank you,
Adam Ashleigh

I would contact the company you bought from. Have you tried that? You could look at the following to see if this might help.
GIK Acoustics: Room Setup

Do I need to put bass traps behind my monitors if I have front firing bass ports?

Also, thank you for the link. The GIK website has been very informative.

It is best to start by sitting 38% of the room length.

My chair? or the monitors? My chair is about 50% room length. But thats with my gear up against one of the long walls. Should I change my front wall to one of the shorter walls? So that way there is more length behind my monitors/me and the front wall?

Well I'm going to position my setup like the diagram you showed me. Thanks again. Off to buy some new desks and fabric. I will be ordering some GIK bass traps in a few weeks when I get paid again.

Yes where your head is and YES you want to face the short wall in the room. Being in the middle of the room is the worst part to be and facing the long wall will put the back wall WAY to close to you.

Sounds good. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with.

Yes, you should have more room front to back rather than left to right, and you want your ears at 38% of the rooms length. This is tricky in smaller spaces, as the difference between 38% (ideal) and 50% (worst case) is often only a few inches.

FWIW, you'll get a TON more mileage out of Glenn's products than the Auralex you are currently using. If you are planning on incorporating some GIK traps, hold off on using the spray adhesive to hang your foam. Just use some finish nails.

Thanks for all the help. I rearranged my room so the front wall is on one of the short walls. My ears are at 38%. My foam is in place thanks to the diagrams Glenn provided me with, and my room sounds 100x better. Thanks so much.

I used double sided adhesive foam tape. Stays in place but not permanent. I will rearrange when I get the new bass traps. I will also upload some photos soon.

Thanks a ton Glenn!

Glad it worked out. Keep in mind that the 38% thing is only a starting point. You may find that moving forward or back (a bit) may work even better for you.
