where to put 2 bass traps?

i picked up 4 traps yesterday for a standard 12'x10' bedroom studio. i've got the mix position up against one side of the shorter wall. i put 2 of the traps in the upper corners in front of the mix position...

question... would it be better, generally speaking, to put the other two in the lower corners in front of the mix position, or would it be better to put them on the rear wall corners? (note, there is a door at one of the rear corners which would make placement there tricky....

any suggestions? (besides "buy more bass traps?")

Try it both ways and see which works best. You might want to also try putting them behind you on the back wall.

You might also think about moving that mix position so that it's centered between the two side walls unless there's a reason you can't.

actually, i'm about 1/3rd of the length of the room back from the wall... (the desk etc is against the wall) i heard that was the optimum position, no?

these are the foam guitar center auralex corner traps, so, i guess i'll just try them in different spots and see where they work best...

thanks guys.

You should be 38% of the way into the room from the front or the back wall, centered between the two side walls. If that's where you are, then that's a good starting place.

You might want to add some 4" broad band panels to those corners at some point. Foam bass traps aren't all that effective by themselves, but they do work well as a filler in corners behind 4" panels.
