Thread Starter | Recording Horns in a Small Room
Hi GS, I wasn't quite sure where t post this but ended up here. I'm recording in a small room. Small meaning like 18x14 with 12' high ceilings. The room includes a small 7' high control room about 1/4 the space with a loft above it with a whole bunch of crap for storage. The walls are carpeted but the wall of the control room is not. We have theater curtains hung all around and even has a slidable curtain in the middle to break up the amp section from the drums. Now, I'm recording a trumpet, sax, and trombone in stereo using probably an RCA 44BX and a Sony c37p. My question is what would be acoustically the wiser way to record these instruments? Into carpet or into reflection? I have a few ways I can diffuse or reflection sound but size of the room is limited. Has anybody had experience with this? I'd just do tests but professional musicians cost money. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks! -soup

I'd put the dead side behind the microphone.....and use the Ribbon!

| Definately make sure that first reflections aren't getting to the mics in a set-up like that. Horns need to breathe - if you cover first reflections, you have a chance. -tINY |
