| Gear nut | Acoustic panel vs. gobo
I feel kind of dumb asking this and hoping I don't get totally chewed off the forum. But I've been reading and researching different builds for acoustic panels and gobos. And I'm wondering if there is any difference in gobos and acoustic panels? I understand there is a difference in application and thickness but I'm wondering if there is any real difference in material. Because essentially they're built for very similar jobs....correct? I'm just gonna go ahead and say thanks and sorry. Cheers! |

No need to apologize for asking a good question. A gobo could be the same as an absorbing panel, but gobos are often also built with a rigid barrier to block sound more effectively. Some gobos are reflective on one side and absorbent on the other, though my preference is to absorb on both sides. If either side is near to an instrument or to a microphone, then it should be absorbent. And that's usually how a gobo is used. --Ethan

And just to add, you can use a gobo (most of the time) in the early reflection points of the room.

Ethan & Glenn, Thank you both! I've been reading your posts all through out the forum. I know that was kind of a silly question but it's a question that's been lingering in my mind. Cheers! |
