Bass Trap Technique?

I recently started an internship at a professional studio in Redding, California. (The Soundhouse) I've been charged with constructing a bass trap in the crawl-space above our dead-iso. There is a 2'x4' port in the ceiling, leading into the space above. The space in which I will be bass trapping is 7'6"x6'3"x3'. The trapping will consist of running two wooden rails along the long side of the wall, then sandwiching sheets of 3"thick fiberglass "fire blanket" insulation between cross bars, which will hang on the side rails. There will be a total of most likely 10 sheets hung in the space. My question is whether I should try to get the insulation flush against the sheetrock or leave a little space along the sides and the bottom.

If anyone has an idea, I would greatly appreciate it! Sorry for such an in depth question!

I am not sure I am following everything you are doing there, but stuffing as much fiberglass in the area is always best. Does that help?

Send the new guy into the hole to stuff fiberglass...

I don't care how hot it is that day, wear old jeans, two long sleave shirts and a hat. Bring long gloves and a change of clothes.

Yes, after telling him to first go to a forum and find out how to do it.

Seriously, if they're a real professional studio they should know exactly what to do already, or being willing to pay an acoustician for an hour of consulting time to make sure it's all done correctly. That said, if the OP could posts some photos of the attic space, that would sure help.

update

Sorry I wasn't terribly clear with my first post. The project is a bit difficult to explain. Although it was definitely a case of "send the new guy into the hole with the fiberglass" (along with the other two interns), it wasn't just a random hackjob they expected me to figure out myself. It was actually recommended by an acoustician, who explained the whole process to us, except that one detail he forgot to mention. I posted it on here thinking someone else might have done a similar process and have a quick answer, but we just called the acoustician in the morning and he clarified it for us.

Needless to say, the project was a royal pain in the butt, but we finished it in one day, and it worked very well. The room sounds way better. If I have a chance to take some pictures of it in the next couple days, I will post them on here.

Of course, that's why they asked you to do it!

Glad to hear it all worked out successfully.
