Thread Starter | Looking for Owens Corning 703? It seems like the whole "where to buy OC703" issue is pretty widespread. I know I hunted quite a bit with not too much luck. Here's a possible solution if anyone else is having the same issue. Although my Home Depot (like everyone else's) doesn't stock OC703, I was able to special order it from their pro desk. Price was competitive with other places I'd found it online, and I don't have to pay for shipping now. |

| You should not be paying more than about 95 cents a square foot... this means about $48 per box of six 2'X4' panels, 2" thick each. Online vendors and other distributors looking to make a killing will typically charge TWICE this amount if not more. This can really add up. Don't let them rape you. Some have reported getting 703 even cheaper than 95 cents sq/ft, depends on the region, but I think 95 cents sq/ft is at least fair in general. Whatever the online guys charge is ridiculous. They are capitalizing on the fact that 703 is not readily available and most people are too lazy to call around to find a fair price in their local area. And, oh yeah, don't forget about shipping, if you buy online, you'll be hit with a nasty shipping charge. This stuff comes in large bulky boxes or bags, it's costly to ship. The typical shipping fees for this stuff will be way more than whatever local sales tax will be based on a fair per sq/ft price. So, no matter what, you're way better off buying local. I know it sucks, but pull out the phone book and start calling every big construction supply place in your area. Somebody down there must deal OC703 and be willing to give it to you at a fair price. Apparently not every Owens Corning dealer can get 703 for whatever reason, you might need to make a lot of calls. I got my OC703 from Kamco Supply in NY, they have several locations in the north-east, they were great to work with, great price in my opinion, prompt delivery, etc, unfortunately I do not see any down where you are. Maybe some TX sluts can chime in and give you some local advise. If you find a place similar to Kamco down in your area, you'll be set. Best of luck. |

Thread Starter | I wish I'd found it for 95 cents a square foot. I searched forums for ideas, called every HVAC and hardware supplier/store I could think of, and searched the internet, and all that netted very sparce results. Various forums, including those on gearslutz, had a few ideas but nothing near me. Local suppliers and distributors sounded like they had no idea what I was talking about, barring one: Austin Acoustical Materials. They don't keep it in stock and would have passed shipping charges along to me. As you said, it's not to be found online for less than $70 for a pack of six panels. Home Depot ordered it for about the same price, but didn't charge me shipping, so it seemed like the best solution for me. If anyone else can find it locally for the prices you named more power to them. I just wanted to throw an option out there for other people that were having as tough a time as me finding the stuff. |

| Even if you pay the price online, remember the ratio of $ to improvement you are getting. Compare that to the last $1000 you spent on equipment, in other words. Consider if you spent $5k on room treatment materials...I'd think most would agree it was worth far more. by the way, I got lucky with my find and found a distributer that had some sitting for 2 years in their warehouse. But I really think if the people at a Lowes or Home Depot did their homework, called Owens Corning, they'd send all you want. May not be rock bottom prices, but they'd ship it. |

I was mainly just addressing the fact that for many people it seems extremely hard to find it in the first place. If my local Home Depot can special order it, I'd guess most if not all can.

| Speciality Products and Insulation by far has the best pricing on 703, mineral wool and all kinds of fire proofing/construction items that are used in studio construction.

| Ask for "3lb/ft^3 fiberglas" or "4 lb/ft^3 mineral wool" type insulation. The former is the generic description of 703 and the latter is the acoustic equivalent in mineral wool. It is an abosrbing subject, but Cottonelle is not recommended Andre

| Lives for gear | There are other manufacturers of rigid fiberglass, such as Knauf and Johns Manville. I imagine SPI carries one of them.

| Actually years ago I saw Johns Manville at SPI in huge sheets. Might work well if cutting the fiberglass in triangles to fit in the corner.

| This isn't true, fyi. I just spoke with them today. They don't stock it in their warehouse (I don't think that they ever did), but if you tell them how much you need, it'll be there the next time they get an OC truck.

| Sorry for bringing up this old thread. My local Home Depot has OC703 for $9.95 a sheet. 1/2 inch 4x6. Seems expensive in comparison to the earlier quote of $.95 for 2 inch panels. I can see if I can order more of what I want. But I guess in this case I'd have to stick 4 together to get 2 inches. |

| That's expensive because Home Depot is expensive. I can get OC R38 for almost half of the price that Home Depot charges. If they are 4x6 sheets, that's about $0.42 per square foot for 1/2" 703. That's crazy. The last quote I got through Kamco for 2" 703 was $0.94 per square foot. I know everybody wishes that they could get all the fiberglass that they can carry at the Home Depot, but the reality is that if you could, you would be paying up the nose for it. You're better off just looking around. |

I somehow doubt that ATS makes their own fiberglass, but regardless... After shipping to Sacramento, you're looking at $92 for 6 sheets. That's still almost twice as much as you could probably find locally at a non-chain building supply distributer/warehouse.

| Just called the 800-GET-Pink number and they were totally useless. They told me that since it was a "commercial grade" product, it is only available to contractors and refused to tell me if there are any local dealers. |

| If you guys have an SPI around you, they have been the best for me. I just picked up several more batts of Johns Mansvill 814, which is the OC703 equivalent, for .82 a square foot I think it was. And 8pcf Rockwool for even less. This was all the 2" stuff by the way. They had some 4", but it was faced and not what I needed. They can also get 4' X 8' panels, and my local SPI warehouse even has a custom shop that cuts and wraps the panels with some nice material. |
