Question Mixed Density Traps

Hey everyone, I've got 12mm (4.6") thick traps behind my speakers straddling the corners. These are 40 Kg/m3 density and made of two layers 6mm each. I've also got some extra 115 Kg/m3 density material that's 5mm (2") thick.

I know nothing is certain until tested, but does it make sense to replace one layer of the low density material with the high density? I could use that low density insulation for corner chunks.

Another option is to leave the corner traps as is, and try and squeeze the remaining high density in the floor wall corners, between the speakers, etc. I'm not sure I can fit everything in though.

Any ideas?

If the option is there to get more surface area in bass absorption, I'd do that. Swapping half of the 4" panel for higher density really isn't going to buy you much of anything.

Or fill the area behind the panel that is being straddled.

Thanks Bryan, that's kind of what I suspected, but wasn't sure. I'll leave them as is for now and maybe fill behind later on like Glenn suggested.

Ah yes, 12cm is what I meant. 12mm would be one tiny bass trap.
