diy building 6" bass traps out of 1" 705 frk..will this work

ok..here is the challenge

i've got 12 1" 705 frk panels that i have had in storage for years. at the suggestion of the gurus here i need two 6" bass traps for my studio to take care of nulls/standing waves at 150hz and below.

since i have the 705 i am wondering if i can use these to do it?

here is my plan:

i can remove some of the frk backing and loosely/lightly glue just the corners of the panels to create 2 "6 panels of 705.

then attach them to a wood frame on the back of the panels leaving 1"to 2" off the wall and then cover with fabric. the sides would not be covered with wood, just the back.

there is a nice youtube video from ready acoustics on how to do this which seems easy enough for someone like me who sucks as wood work.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=***********

will this work and should i leave some of the frk backing on at least one if not 2 of the panels?

also if i were to leave the frk should it be on the front or back of the bass trap or both?

lastly the youtube video leaves 1" space between the wall...should i do more or is this fine?

thanks in advance for your help and comments.

Lightbulb

Four 3-inch thick traps is much better than two 6-inch traps. More here:

Or maybe 6 traps with fluffy pink stuff compressed behind them....

...or spend a little more an put 4pcf rock wool behind the 1" 705.

If these will be bass traps, and high frequency absorption isn't essential, then leave the FRK on the front layer of the trap facing into the room. This will likely increase the amount of bass trapping you get.

hey guys,

thanks for the input. i only have space on my back wall for two 6" panels. i already have ideas about the front wall will get some corner traps to cover that and will get rid of the useless lernd bass traps. also on my back wall i've got one gik 244 currently in the corner on top of the 2 lernd bass traps. i've recently stacked all 12 705 panels back there (two sets of 6) and have heard some improvements....but not enough.

the room is 14x12x 8ft 6"...i have been told that i need 6" traps to deal with the nodes @ 150hz and 300hz

it is just that i've already got the 705 and would hate for it to go to waste.

thanks again
