balance between absorbers and diffusers

I am about to start building absorbers for my new studio.

I have attached a sketchup file of the studio plan.

The live room is 36’L x 23’W x 14.5’H. The control room is 15’L x 11’W x 8’H.

The live room is painted concrete on the ceiling and floor, and painted concrete blocks for walls, except for the control room wall that is sheetrock, and a 12’ x 8’ protrusion on one wall that is plywood.

The absorbers are all 4” mineral wool.

I have been reading threads on diffusers and I have a couple of questions concerning the live room.

I feel like I should have some diffusers and I would like to know if I have to many absorbers and should replace some with diffusers, or should I keep the absorbers and add some diffusers?

Also I plan to use some kind of fsk on the absorbers in the control room. Should I do that to the absorbers in the live room also?

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My suggestion is to post a rough drawing of your place if want more replies.
I have checked you file though. It looks that you have a lot of reflective areas. I would do with more absorption since you floor can only have carpets. Make some panels that can be moved so you can have variable acoustics

Do you have any measurements so far?

4" broad band absorbers are a safe move...very hard to mess that up. It sounds like your questions are focused on the live room, so I'll address it and not the control room. Live rooms can be tricky to get just right; I'd start conservative... a few absorbers with diffusion on each wall, then see how things sound. Add a little bit more and check again. Sooner or later you'll reach a point where you're satisfied.

I'd actually go with straight broad band absorption rather than FSK facings in the live room.

Okay, thanks. I haven't made any measurements yet. I guess I need to do that and take it from there.
