ASC tube traps: are they good/great & worth the dough ?

Hi,

I would like some founded feedback/reviews on these ASC tube traps.

OK they are expensive but might be worth it, especially since I am renting right now and want to easily take the setup with me.

And... is there some european contact, dealer or distributer for these ?

Thank you

You should email ASC and ask them directly. There are also other companies selling traps that can mount on stands and/or easily be hung and removed.

An interesting thing about ASC products is that they combine absorption and diffusion. ASC claimes that this is the ultimate way to treat a room, and that you avoid killing too much ambience. You room still feels alive.

It would be interested to see feedback from people who have tried both this approach and the more traditional absorption way.

This is exactly what I would like to know too.... how the ASC traps compare to typical broadband absorption like real traps, etc. I've read in some other threads where guys have said there's no magic to the cylindrical trapping, but there has to be something to it for them to have as much success as they've had, especially at the high price point.

Tube traps have been around since the 1980s, before more affordable options were available. They also look very nice.

So, then, are you saying the broadband absorbers you offer perform just as well as the ASC tube stuff? Not trying to pin you down at all... just trying to determine if the tube traps are worth the $$. If the difference is merely aesthetic, that's not a big enough difference.

When it comes to the tube traps from ASC and don't think they perform better then basstraps from realtraps/GIK when it comes to basstrapping alone. On the contrary, I saw a thread where a person claimed that the basstraps from realtraps outperformed the ASC tubes in the bassregion. He had started out with ASC tubes, bought some from realtraps and compared them.

But I find the idea about combining diffusion and absorption interesting. Especially for first reflections.

I own 8. One of the best purchase i've made even if they are a bit pricey. And there are no european dealer so you have to order direct from ASC.

I have 2 and they work fine but I have not compared them to other traps.
I also have 4 panels wrapped in burlap and filled with sound absorbtion materials that are on my walls.I could use some skyline diffusors on my ceiling and that would help cut donw on some of the reflections as well.

Best;

I think it would depend on the size of trap you go with. Really this stuff comes down to size. If you want bass control then look at the 24" ones I think they offer.
My cousin bought tube traps around 10 years ago, before I started GIK (we have since done his 2nd studio). I most admit his room sounds pretty nice, but he also spent $35,000 worth of them.
