| Odd shaped room, bass traps/absorbers (pictures) I have a few questions as to placement for my mineral wool bass traps and mix location. I added images of my room(s). The one I am treating now is my control room. I am currently in the corner though I know it is not ideal. I plan to move so that I face the window so that I'm "firing" long ways in the room. This is where my questions come in. I know to straddle the bass traps in the corners but due to the closet door I will have to hang one on the closet and one on the wall (thanks realtraps videos). However: If I don't straddle the one across the closet, do I do the same for the other side to be symmetrical? I figure no but just wanted to make sure. I don't have a problem straddling the panel on the closet door and just removing it when I need to access the closet but of course this is not ideal. If that is the best way, no big deal. Other question. I have a feeling that the one of the first reflection points for my monitors will be in the strange null to the side of the closet space. Should I put something there that is flush with the closet protrusion and hang a panel on it in order to make the room first reflection points equidistant from the monitors (like some sort of cabinet)? In other words. Should I try to make the wall with the closet "continue" so that one monitor's first reflection point isn't 17" different from the other? I'm renting so I can't just build a continuation of the wall, etc etc etc. Lets refer to the walls clockwise from the top as A, B, C, D. The rooms dimensions are: A: 8' 7.5", B: 11', C: 12' 1", D: 11' (with the break at 7' then protruding 17.5" and continuing for 4' to wall A) Oh yeah, 8' 3.5" ceilings. Control room is the room on the right in the pictures. I know nothing about my situation is super ideal I just want to get some basic acoustic treatment up because I'm having major problems in this space. I plan to put a bass trap in each front corner then one in the rear corner and one on the door along with one on the perpendicular wall (instead of straddling the door). Then put 2" thick absorbers at the first reflection points on the walls and 2 2" clouds above my mix position. Critique! Help! Thanks Thanks Thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Symmetry matters, but mostly at mid and high frequencies. Ideally bass traps would be symmetrical too, but if you can't do that then so be it. It's far more important just to have plenty of bass traps. Also, the corner location for mixing is not ideal. --Ethan

| Considering the shape of the room, a cloud will do a lot to calm the high end and tighten the low end. |
