My room needs a fix. w/pics

I have to be abel to mix in my apartment and this room is the one I got. It sound very bad as it is now.
I'm open for anything. Pleas help me I'm quite novice to treating rooms.

I can buy this type of foam very sheap here in sweden but will it suffice? Do I need bass traps in every corner?

The room is aprox. 2.3m x 3.2m and 2.5m to the celling.

I'm very greatful for any feedback.

Må väl!
/Sven

(there is probably 57 threads about this exact room, but I really did my best searching)

els pretty much gave you 95% OF THE solution.

A couple things

-Face the shortest wall in the studio and start by sitting back around 38% of the room length.
-Treat as many corners as possible with bass trapping made from mineral wool.
-Treat the back wall with traps that are 6" or more thick
-Place panels made of mineral wool in first reflection points.

So should I keep the walls clean? Or should I use some of the foam as you see in the picture?

so If I put a bass trap in every corner there would be ten of them (theres extra corner in the mini hallway to the door). would 8 be enough?

many thanks!

first off im no expert like glen but im in the process off doing my studio so i can only tell you what ive learned so far.

in answer to your question there is no answer. not very useful i know but thats it. without doing some sort of sound test there is no way of really knowing what and how much to put where.
when it comes to bass traps, you can never have enough. where 2 surfaces join is where bass will build up so thats where you will need a trap. just remember there are going to be at least 12 corners (2 surfaces meet) and 8 tri corners (3 surfaces meet) in every room. (based on 4 flat walls only)
early reflection points need to be taken into consideration too. these are the point between you and your monitors, left and right walls, floor and ceiling.

these are just the basics.you then have to consider front and rear walls etc....etc...... you could go on forever.

what size/material is that foam? doesnt look very thick to me.

it's 5cm thick i think it's about 2 inches.
this is the company that makes the products i plan to use.
Golden Age Acoustics

So the best thing would be to put basstraps from floor to celling?

I would stay away with using foam for the bass trapping. The foam for the early reflection points are fine but not for bass trapping. For low end us products that have mineral wool in them and are THICK!

Swedes don't have it easy when it comes to acoustics and higher end studio gear. Auralex and M-Audio is what we get. :-) I noticed that Glenns company has started shipping to europe. A roomkit seems to go for around 850 euros. I dont know if that includes customs, VAT (or if there are any fees there).

All of our prices on the GIK UK page include all fees (VAT and so on). And delivery is to your door with NO custom charges. It all ships from our UK plant in Bradford.

thanks again. I think I will try to build me some bass traps of my own. the panels on the picture is stone woll (if there is anything called stone woll). And i will try to use them with my home buildt bass traps.

So should I put the desk with the monitors against the window wall? how should I place absorbers?

a basic room setup although not to be taken as gospel. you will have to factor in room size etc...

Yes place the monitors against the window wall. If you need panels behind each monitor to help with SBIR (Learn what is SBIR (Speaker Boundary Interface Response).) and can't hang them then you could think about building stands for them.

great!

This setup on the pic looks good. I wil try to recreate this with the things I got in my three times smaller room. I will post pictures on my work.

Ok then we have stands for the monitors. I was thinking of 4 bricks under each monitor and then use something like soft rubber things under the bricks and betwen monitors and brick. I think it would be sheap and yet atractiv for the eye.

Is this a bad ide?

I'm really happy that you all answerd my call for help.

anything that decouples the monitors bass from the rest of the fixtures is always a good thing. i couldnt comment on your solution though.
(p.s. its cheap not sheap)
