Artwork on Acoustic Panels

Hey guys...I'm building some broadband panels for my room and I would really like to have some artists (and my 4 year old son) do some artwork on them......Is this possible? the fabric obviously needs to breathe...I'm assuming oil paint is out completely...would watercolour work?...is this ridiculous?....thoughts, experience, advice.

Lightbulb

Water color is fine, as is magic marker or dye.

I thought about using canvas wrapping which is apropriate for painting but found that it is too expenssive.

Im thinking about painting an interesting random black squares pattern on the white panels.

this type of thing but less colorful, more monotonic\basic.

Can anybody please share some information about how canvas will interfere in a acoustic panel?

I have a friend how does some amazing abstract painting on canvas and would be great if I could have them as acoustic panels.

Thanks in advance!

if the paint covers the porous of the foam/rockwool it prevents sound to absorb

so should we consider a paint+canvas combination?

in my case, as far as my painting-knowledge goes, my painter-buddy is not the type of using 200 layers to create his stuff. his work is very minimalistic and once he told me about classical painters who use 200 layers so that made their canvas much thicker than his.

does that comes into play or the canvas itself prevents a lot absorption?

thx guys!

You can use it when the panel is used for bass trapping. Don't use then in early reflection points or trying to tame high end.

I am surrounded by the 4 seasons in my room.
A long time ago whenn I built my treatments, I found some good Kanji figures for the four seasons and printed them on clear trasnparancy sheets. Then I projected them on a wall and traced each of them onto a 4'X2' piece of cardboard. I cut out the shapes then placed the cardboard template over black burlap panels and spray painted white the images. They came out so cool looking almost "ancient"...
