Thread Starter | finally... pics of my DIY bass traps
I finally bought a digital camera, so here's some pics of my little room and the bass traps i've put into it... ![]() i made the first couple frames out of some plywood i had lying around, but after that ran out, i went with pine. the rockwool was roxul 60 (4'' thick, 2'x'4 panels), and i bought some cheap cotton sheets to wrap them. at first, i was cutting the sides of the frames to 4 inches, but when i realized that "4 inches wide" at home depot does not mean the wood is ACTUALLY 4 inches wide, (it's actually like 3.25 inches wide) i just adjusted my measurements. and having the rockwool stick out a little actually looks a little nicer anyway. ![]() this is one of the traps mounted on the wall behind my mix position. i used 8 inch shelving brackets, which let me mount it 4 inches off the wall to get the maximum absorption out of it. here's a close up of them... ![]() i think the whole presentation looks pretty sweet. there is the one mounted on the back wall, as well as one in each corner of the room. in the picture above, the green drape is actually my doorway; it's a really old house with some funky, oddly-shaped and -sized doorways upstairs. the issue isnt even noise or privacy, just climate control, through the double-sided drape solution has worked out really great on all fronts. it cuts down the upper mids and highs enough that you can be downstairs and still hear yourself think while im playing upstairs. or maybe my roommates are just saying that to be nice... ![]() this is the front of the room. as you can see, im an ITB kinda guy and i have an extensive collection of stolen signs. (from laundromats and office buildings, for example) i just did that front bass trap today, it's mounted similarly to the other one, but i didnt screw it to the shelving brackets, so i can move it to open and close the window. i was worried about that, but it's actually really sturdy on it's own; not much chance of knocking it over by accident. finally, here's my "custom" fender j bass (not pictured is my matching fender strat, same pink finish and rosewood fretboard): ![]() act like you know. |
