What should I use to build my traps?

In my new room I will be building some new walls in order to get the ratios Ethan suggested on the Real traps site of H=1 W=1.25 L=1.6.

That means I can also decide on the shape of the room. I was planning therefore to build the bass traps from brick so they are actually part of the wall.

I was wondering if there are any benefits or problems by doing it this way instead of building frames into a corner or buying foam bass traps etc

Cheers

Are you serious? I'm not sure I understand your plan here...do you mean just building a frame out of brick?

I'm building completely new walls within my existing room.

I'm asking if I should build these walls without corners so they acts as the bass trap or whether I should use foam bass traps or something similar.

I'd be really interested to see walls without corners.

Well, they won't act as bass traps unless you mean that you're building false walls then putting treatment behind them. Flattening the corners will help with the higher frequency stuff though...fewer parallel surfaces if you design things right.

Do not flatten out the corners! Leave every corner as is and put bass traps there.

Ethan,

Are there any articles by you or others you know of that explain this approach? I have heard both sides of the arguments by equally reputable people.

Right, but you can also build a false wall with treatment behind it after the fact.

Most of the time when you see it done that way the wall is false with treatment behind it.

I have never heard anyone who knows what they're doing suggest walling off corners with rigid material like sheet rock. Maybe a false wall with absorption in the corner as Glenn said, but never solid. All that does is remove the single best place for traps. But if you can point me to some contrary arguments, I'll be glad to have a look.
