Thread Starter | Quick insulation question
It's been really hard for me to find a insulation supplier in my area. I recently found one that claims to have two "acoustic" products available: 1. "some kind of rockwool," he says. The PCF is 2.5 and they're 2 inches thick. 2. "and then some rigid fiberglass material," he continues. The PCF is 6 and they're 1.5 inches thick. I know that there isnt much info here so my question is what should I ask him to find out whether or not the material wil work for me? I'm at work and dont want to drive al the way to his shop and get the wrong material. Is there anyway to tell by the PCF? Thanks in advance! |

If it is rigid fiberglass or mineral wool the 6 pound will work fine. Glenn

So I went over to the guys shop and the material was Certa Pro Fiberglass with FSK on it, 1 and 1/2 inches thick, 5.95 m2. Still sound good? Does the FSK work the same as FRK? Also, for a trap would it be best to layer 3 pieces (4 an1/2 inces thick) or just two (3 inches thick)? Thanks again. | |

Dekk, take a look over at studiotips - tips on studio design, acoustics, and wiring Bob Golds has comparisons for many different types of insulation there. There is plenty of practical how to, and using what, also. 2.5 pounds per cubic foot is a little below 703, fine for Superchunks. though. The 5.95 m2? Not sure what that means. FRK or FSK or whatever are approximately the same, should have the same effect. 1.5 inches is OK for HF reflection control, ceiling clouds and so on. Leave a 2 inch gap behind it.
