Thread Starter | Control Room Tuning - I'm Probably Crazy but...
Hi Folks Sorry if this is in the wrong area. I wasn't quite sure. I'm trying to make some compensations for my small project studio control room. It's roughly 10'x10'x10' and almost completely covered with 2" Auralex wedges. No bass traps yet, but pretty darn dead. I use Cubase 4 almost exclusively. Also nearfields with a sub. This is my twisted logic. Please tell me if you think there's any merit to this process or not. I'm new at all this room stuff. I aquired a measurement mic and realtime analyzer/pink noise generator. I loaded L+R tracks into Cubase 4 with a pink noise ref file on each (mono) track. I then set it up measuring the left and right sides separately with the mic position as close to where my ears are for each side. While playing back the pink noise, I used a 31 band EQ on the Cubase master track to make the analyzer read as flat as possible. After I analyzed both sides (they were very similar) I adjusted the EQ settings to average the differences and then saved it as a preset. After that I set up the Cubase Control Room with the new EQ preset on one of the sends so that the monitoring side would use the EQ, but the Cubase song itself would not... Essentially making it so my monitoring only would use the adjustments from the 31 band Eq preset. I know there's SO much more that goes into this, but do any of you think I did myself any favors with the process. If where my ears are positioned is pretty flat, isn't that better for hearing more accurately? Do you think this method has any value? Am I crazy or what? ![]() Thanks a mil! |
