just built some bass traps! here are pics

a friend of mine and i set out to build our own bass traps... save some money, and have fun in the process.

i looked around the web at various trap plans and sort of got an idea, but didn't follow any one plan in particular. the idea was to create wooden frames to house 2 layers of 703. initially we wanted to wrap the 703 and inset into a stained, mitered corner box.. to show the wood and such.. but we quickly realized our wood cutting chops weren't there and things got a bit messy from the get-go... so we decided to simply wrap the entire frame which turned out to be MUCH easier... we didn't have to worry so much about making pretty cuts, or staining or anything.

as you can see from the pics below we didn't even bother to miter the corners. unfortunately, i forgot to take a picture of the 703 sitting inside the frames, but you can imagine our happiness when they indeed.. fit.!

we've made 2 which are now installed in my studio (pic of that coming) and will be making more next week. i need 4 right away, as does my friend. but, now that we've made them once, they'll be easier.

i ordered the 703 and the cloth wrap from Atsa Acoustics. shipping was a killer, but i don't know where to get the 703 locally.

still, the traps cost less than half of what we'd pay retail.
