Need Help Treating My Room

Hi! I need some help figuring out how I should treat my home studio.

I've attached a drawing, but basically it's 16'x22' rectangle with 8 foot ceilings. I built it out in an old barn. The floors and walls are built up off of the concrete floor of the barn (is that called a floating floor?) and sound proofing really isn't a problem. The thing is the walls and ceilings are all roughsawn cedar panels, so it looks amazing, but there are all kinds of reflections. I want to tame these reflections, but I'm also not too fond of hanging a lot of stuff permanently on the walls.

I was thinking of making some 2'x4' panels with some aborbtion one one side and diffusion on the other side that I could move around as I see fit.

This room is for both recording and mixing.

Any ideas?

Also, I know my monitors are not in a ideal spot, but because of the way I built shelves and storage for amplifiers, they're not going anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

-Zach

Welcome to Gearslutz

A few things,

-Face the right short wall.
-Put your mix spot (where you sit) 38% from the wall. I believe that would be 8.36'
-Treat all corners with bass traps with a core of mineral wool or OC
-Treat early reflection points on right/left and ceiling.

see the following page to give you some guidance on room set up.

Rigid fiberglass... Most places use OC 703 or 705.
OC = Owens Corning.

That won't work well. The diffusion side might function the way it should, but the absorbtion side woudn't.

I know you said you didn't want to move the speakers, but if you follow Glenn's suggestions you'll get better use of the room.

Plus, as you can see, Glenn has a kind face, and can therefore be trusted.

Yeah, sure, but what about you Frank? With all that red in your photo you look like the villain in my Gorgar pinball machine.

So if I knock on your door and hear "ME GORGAR" that is the pinball machine and not you and Elli?

Also, did you teach the cat to play? I see 3 scores up on the board, you, Elli and ??????????

All kidding aside, very cool game. One of my faves back in "THE DAY"..
