Thread Starter | Lo-ceiling in vocal booth. Catch: Can't drill into ceiling Hey everyone, I've looked around some information but this case is a little unique it seems. My studio is on the top floor of an old house. The vocal booth on this floor is about 200 sq feet, but is itself a poorly built addition with a thin ceiling/roof. Long story short, if I drill into the ceiling I drill THROUGH the ceiling and I would likely have rain come through the resulting holes! The acoustic is most obvious with low/deep male vocals and acoustic guitar/upright bass where the reflections off the ceiling just ruin the 300Hz to 500Hz range by making it boomy, and blurr the midrange frequencies. Anyway I have bass trapping hung in the corners (5'x3'x4" deep). The floor is a heavy carpet with think underpad so it's dead. The ceiling however is still untreated and low. It's about 6'8". Now here's the crux of the whole thing... I have some extra 4'x2'x3" absorbers that I can either attempt to hang. OR I can purchase a foam of some sort... I was eyeing this auralex. This is a little more attactive to me as I could just glue them to the ceiling and be done with it. Any comments? |

Thread Starter | The absorbers that I've constructed weigh around 8-12lbs. About the weight of a Fender Strat. Velcro is a good idea in theory, but the ceiling is stucco'd! D'oh. |

| Based on the advice on this forum, I created a six inch thick trap that covers almost the entire ceiling of my closet booth. I left a small area gap where the ventilation vent sucks out air. I did not put any holes in the ceiling. I was originally going to use a strip of wood all the way around the walls and let it rest ontop of the ledge/shelf. Instead I put those L-brackets used for shelving in the wall which has screwholes on each side and ran the zipties across them to hold the panel in place. The material wrapped around the minwool is a canvas paint tarp. ![]() |
