Question Safely securing panels to plaster/brick walls

Hi all,

I've just made up a few more panels as per a particularly helpful youtube vid, but have resisted attaching to the wall for the time being as I've only just finished decorating the room in question (and don't want to drill into my paintwork! :P )

Now, it's not actually my studio, but the small spare room/study, which is now particularly live-sounding due to the bare boarded floor and painted walls, hence the addition of a panel or two. While I've been happy to drill into the walls of my dilapidated studio, which will need re-skimming with plaster anyway once I get round to redecorating it, I'm hesitant to drill and secure eye-hooks if I can avoid it in the spare room/study.

So...

I'm tempted to try and simply hang the panels like heavy pictures, using standard double pin picture hooks like this, which can apparently support 7kg (the panels seem to be about 5-6kg each), but does anyone have any other ideas about mounting panels without drilling or using floor stands? Have you used picture hooks on your plastered walls successfully?

Cheers,
Chris.

That'll work just fine. If you were to get the panels from us, chances are that's exactly how you'd hang 'em.

Thumbs up

Thanks Frank for reassuring me; good to know it ought to be okay hanging the panels with a picture hook

Sure...just to be clear, make sure it's a heavy-duty picture hanging hook, and not a little bitty one. That wouldn't work well. The ones you linked to looked okay.

Yep, it'll be the two-pin 7kg-rated hooks. I'll try just one panel for starters and give it a week -- if it stays up then I'll try the rest.

When I redecorate the studio I'll hang the wall panels from the old picture rail (which I should have done in the first place, in the studio).

Wow this actually a great idea! I've been puting off installing some lighter panels that I made a few months ago because I was too lazy to go through all the bracketing stuff and I like the idea of semi-permanent panels that you can take down if or move if needed. My panels are about 8lbs each.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this idea before. cool!
