Question Questions about mounting basstraps in corner

I am halfway done building 4 of my 4" basstraps (pics soon). I plan to straddle them over each corner of my room. I know that covering two walls and the ceiling is preferred and this leads to my questions:
  1. When mounting the trap, should I actually touch the ceiling with the trap or does it work just as well to be a couple inches off?
  2. Since I'm mounting it over the corner, is it still imperative to mount it off the walls a few inches or will the gap behind the trap suffice?

Also, if anyone has suggestions on good mounting hardware/ideas for corner-mounted traps - please advise. Ready Acoustics has this mount, but $12 a piece seems a bit steep for a (low) budget DIY project.

Thanks

If the panel is parallel to the wall, then you should mount it a few inches away from the wall. If the panel is straddling the corners, then you're all set.

What kind of frames do you have in your panels? Picture hanging wire and eyehooks or D-rings can work well for corner mounting....

As JWL said you want to mount it off the wall when flat mounting, but when straddling it is best to have the sides of the panel touching the wall, ceiling or floor depending on how you are mounting it.

@jwl: I've attached a picture of one of the (yet-to-be-covered) traps.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'll try to mount it touching the ceiling. It's good to know I don't need to mount if off the wall any further...my room's not that big :)
