where he says "cut randomly" skylines are not "random" (they are calculated random) while they probably sound different then a flat wall, they are not diffusing like a traditional skyline does. and may actually sound worse. there was a post on here about the density of foam needed for diffusion to even work... and im not sure the "blue foam" has the right density ah found it What should a skyline diffusor be made of?

right, i wouldve ignored the 'random' blocking, and inserted something based on the BBC papers... (something close to 7,5,3,1) the problem with density? it would only reflect the highs? mids/lows partly absorbed? or chaos all around? backstory: i just finished a 2' x4' pine 2x2 skyline... and its freakin heavy, i cant see putting 2-3 of 10' above the drummers head... .. and im capped at around $150-$200 for the project thx update: i found some info.. the foam in question is 1.60 pcf .. much shy of the recommended 2.8 pcf. ... what problems can i expect?.. i am ok with some absorption.. i have some flutter i would like to get rid of.

thanks for all the help! one last little question... so if i made this 4x4' panel.. and it diffused down to 1k-ish ... the bass & low mid would pass right through... now if i made this diffuser the face of a cloud.. something like diffuser,2" gap, 2" mineral wool. 2" gap, ceiling ..... would i see something like.. diffusion to 1k, then absorption down to like 200ish hz.. or am i just messing with too much chaos here. (btw, i hung the other skyline on the back wall yesterday, took 3 ppl to get it up there... that thing would crush the drummer to deathif it fell onto their head) thx
