| Real Traps OK so after much thought I decided to buy The MONDO ROOM KIT from real Traps company. my question is, I do alot of vocal tracking in my 12 height 14 with 6 height apartment...Vocals especially women's vocals don't reach below 500 hertz so real traps is known for thir good bass traping so will it even make a difference when I track vox??? I will be getting some micro traps witn the kit which I know calm flutter echos and Early reflections but what can I expect from this setup. I will be getting 8 mini traps and 6 micro traps.. |

| Female vocals go a lot lower than 500 Hz, but probably not much further than 150 or 200. So deep bass trapping won't be necessary unless you're monitoring entire mixes as well with lower instruments in them. |

| Lives for gear | hectc7, The room sound gets in to all recordings. The difference is, by treating the room, the room sound will be a lot better. The bass traps will flatten everything overall, and you can use the MicroTraps to control specific reflection points. Also, the Mondo Room Kit comes with 4 MondoTraps, 4 MiniTraps, and 3 MicroTraps. You might consider putting some of the panels on stands (you can put the MicroTraps on microphone stands), so that you can move panels around a bit while tracking. But even if you don't do this, the kit should make a huge difference in your room sound in the microphones.

| I am really excited. I ordered it today(the mondo kit). the real traps team could not be nicer or more helpful.....Now I need to get rid of my Aurelex LENRD or whatever traps. I really saw no improvement from those. |

| Yeah the Lenrds probably aren't that helpful, but they won't hurt to keep around. |

| Lives for gear | I agree. Don't get rid of the LENRDs; every little bit of bass trapping helps. Use them in corners that are still untreated after you have the Mondos and Minis installed. If you run out of corners, then stick the LENRDs behind the Mondos or Minis.

| Looking at real traps as well, but even the real trap site shows that the Lenards do offer some bass response treatment. It looked to be about 50% less than a real trap on average, and the sub frequency 40-80ish hz the reak trap really excelled in over them. They are obviously not as good as a real trap, but a Lenard is $25 and a real trap is $399 right? What is the best bang for the buck in buyin a real trap set up? I don't see being able to buy the whole room kit, as I have some Auralex 4" foam, and diffusors, but thought of possibly trying a few real trap products as I have a pretty noticeable bass resononace in my right rear corner. Any suggestions?

| The issue isn't so much "bang for the buck," but if you put LENRDs in all of your corners you still have bass problems and now there's no room for better bass traps. Also, the price difference is nothing like what you mentioned. LENRDs are only two feet long, so the cost per four feet of length is $90 for two LENRDs versus $200 for one RealTraps MiniTrap. If you compare the data at lower frequencies where MiniTraps are three times more effective, MiniTraps actually cost much less per Sabin of absorption! Plus all the other features such as better mounting without glue all over your walls, not crumbling over time, Class A fire rating, and so forth. --Ethan

| Lives for gear | LENRDs are proof that real acoustic foam can be effective for sound absorption, despite the bashing foam as a whole gets. The real issue is the size of the panel; LENRDs are simply too small to have good effect at the lower bass frequencies (ie, under 200Hz or so). But like has been said, every little bit of bass trapping helps. LENRDs, even if they are too small, are better than no treatment, but not as good as larger, more effective options.

The best value from RealTraps is MiniTraps and MicroTraps. The same number of dollars invested goes further with MiniTraps than MondoTraps. Even though MondoTraps individually absorb more bass than MiniTraps, having more MiniTraps is better overall because you'll have more total surface area. So for the same cost, six MiniTraps is better than four MondoTraps. --Ethan

| Ceiling Hi Hec, that ceiling is low. I reckon you should hang at least one, probably two MicroTraps above your singer. Pay attention to your Ceiling Cloud also. If you run out of Micros, the side reflections can be diminished with wall hangings or whatever. The ceiling and cloud however, deserves a MicroTrap treatment.
