Canadian Materials

Hey Fellow Canadians. I'm located in Toronto and am looking for a rigid fibreglass option. Since 703 isn't supplied here, I have been looking at ROXUL Products. I thought I found an alternative, but now I have forgotten what it is (something like R40?). In any case, what have you found in Canada and where did you buy it? I'm itching to get some trapping going on in my room.
Thanks
Ian

Owens Corning, Johns-Mannsville, Fibertex, OFI, Knauf are all available in the Toronto area. Look for heating, air conditioning, boiler suppliers.

I used Roxul Safe'n'Sound. I bought it at Rona and I believe the home depot carries it as well. EDIT* Sorry it's not 'rigid', but it works!

If you want the rigid stuff, you'll need to go through an industrial supplier. I suggest dense, rigid stuff for 4" or thinner traps. For thicker than that, Roxul Safe'N'Sound is ideal. It's easily available and inexpensive. As was said, it's not rigid though, so you'll need to put it in a frame.

I have enough Safe'N'Sound in the corners of my room for 20 6" traps right now in the bags they came in. As soon as they were put in there, I played some drums and noticed my kick and snare sounded much better. I built one 6" trap and put it behind my computer screen, in between my monitors and a null at 100 Hz disappeared completely. I can't wait to have these things set up around the room!

I got some rigid roxul stuff from a company called "patene". They have a bunch of stores, I ordered from the St Catharines location. They don't keep roxul on hand, but my order only took a week or so to get to them. I think it was Roxul RHT 40 or something to that effect. I don't think the Safe n sound is as effective if you're making panels, due to its lower density. I believe it would be more useful for 'superchunk' style traps though.

There are two places in Toronto to get 703, General Insulation Canada and Glass Cell isofab. Just google them and you're good. Glass Cell isofab sells OFI-48 (which is the same as 703 just a different company) and General Insulation stocks owens corning 703. Both are great to work with and have very knowledgable staff.
